ABOUT US
We have two distinct businesses (but with unified processes), which means real variety in the finance function:
We’re 200+ people, remote-first, and we operate with startup pace backed by established-company stability. We adopt new tools and ways of working proactively — including AI across the business — and we expect every function to pull its weight there. Finance is no exception.
Storyteller is our fast-growing SaaS business, enabling companies (think major global sports brands) to integrate Stories into their owned and operated platforms. This brings a different financial profile, product economics and growth-stage dynamics.
Storm Ideas is a forward-thinking media agency, founded in 2008, working with globally recognised clients across the US TV and entertainment industry. We produce content at scale, deliver operational services, and sit at the intersection of media, technology, and creativity.
It’s a rare combination that keeps the work interesting and develops a broader skill set than a single-entity role.
Embracing Future-Facing Technology
The finance function is changing fast. AI and automation are absorbing the routine work — reconciliations, variance analysis, management account prep — that used to fill most of a finance team’s week.
We’re not looking for someone who sees that as a threat. We want someone who sees it as an opportunity to spend their time on work that actually moves the business forward: strategic analysis, cash flow optimisation, commercial decision support, and building finance systems that scale without headcount.
You’ll own the entire finance function across two businesses — a 200+ person media agency with major US entertainment clients and a fast-growing sports focused SaaS platform. You’ll work independently, move quickly, and be expected to automate yourself out of the mundane so you can focus on what matters (this part is key). Importantly, you won’t be alone – you'll be supported by 2 experienced Finance team members, with some assistance also from our Client Services team.
About us
Storyteller is a high growth B2B SaaS platform, which allows companies to integrate Stories into their owned and operated platforms. Popularized by Instagram and Snapchat, Stories are perfectly suited for boosting user engagement, audience retention, and driving advertising revenue.
Our end‑to‑end platform gives companies a best‑in‑class Stories experience in days with native iOS, Android, and Web SDKs, publishing tools, analytics, and ad support.
We work with many globally recognised clients, particularly within sport, so if you're a sporting fan this could be a great fit!
Responsibilities
Strategic Finance & Decision Support
Surface and give leadership the numbers they need without waiting for month-end
Create actionable analysis for the board — not slide decks full of backward-looking charts, but forward-looking insight that drives decisions
Own financial strategy with a focus on tax efficiency and long-term fiscal planning
Model scenarios for business decisions: new hires, different growth outcomes, client profitability
Core Finance Operations
Ownership of cash flow management and forecasting
Manage day-to-day accounting: billing, AP, AR, cost accounting. But the expectation is that you’re automating the repetitive elements, not drowning in them
Lead management accounts preparation and ensure reporting accuracy at all times
Develop finance policies, internal controls, and compliance that are lean and proportionate to our scale
Automation, AI & Systems
Identify and implement automation across finance workflows — we expect you to be proactively eliminating manual processes, not maintaining them
Use AI tools (LLMs, skills, automation platforms) to accelerate reporting, analysis, and routine finance tasks
Build scalable, documented processes that don’t depend on you being in the loop for every step
Qualifications
What We're Looking For
ACA/ACCA qualified with 2+ years’ post-qualification experience
Proven ability to work independently and own outcomes — you don’t wait for instructions
Comfortable communicating with senior stakeholders and presenting financial analysis to non-finance audiences
Demonstrable experience automating or significantly improving finance processes (not just identifying problems — fixing them)
Genuine, active engagement with AI and automation tools — we’ll ask you about this in the interview
Strong commercial instinct: you understand that finance exists to support business decisions, not to produce reports for the sake of it
Ability and aptitude to build basic automations or AI workflows
Nice to haves
Experience in a media agency, start up or tech company
Experience with high-growth or scaling businesses where processes were being built, optimised and automated, not just maintained
WHAT WE’RE NOT LOOKING FOR
If you see AI as a fad, prefer manual processes because “that’s how it’s always been done,” or believe the finance function’s primary value is producing retrospective reports — this isn’t the right fit. We need someone who wants to build the future of this function and is genuinely excited by that, not to preserve the past.
